Old Habit poured a very dark brown color with a finger width, light tan head. The aroma is strong,
with whiskey notes and a faint sourness. The body is rich and complex, smooth, with a light sweetness
up front. There is lots of resin from the oak barrells and dark fruit. The finish has a light dryness and some
strong sour notes that are overwhelmed by a significant alcohol burn. The
beer left tiny amount of hanging lace on the glass.
Overall, this is a very intriguing brew that was extremely
difficult to rate as it changed completely as it moved from cool to warm. The beer started off with a plenty of whiskey
notes that really overwhelmed the body. As the beer warmed it became much smoother and quite frankle
a much better beer. I am not sure how much of the sour aspect I was tasting was intentional but it seemed to work out
ok. All in all Old Habit seems like a beer with huge potential but there is some different things going on.
I would love to see this bottle lay down for a bit. But it now and sock it away for a year.
