Saranac’s Belgian Style Ale poured
a clear, dark auburn color with a thumb width off white head. The nose is fairly complex with plenty of
malts, some dark fruit, and a little candied apricot. The body is smooth, malty, and a some
sweetness that is balanced nicely by a light tartness. There is a little touch of dryness on the finish
but nothing extraordinary. Overall, this is a pretty darn good beer from Saranac. The model for this
beer is clearly a trappist dubbel and some aspects of this beer come pretty darn close. The complexity is
impressive and the flavors are nice. The finish could be a little better but another very drinkable beer from Utica.
